I was born in New York, raised in Toronto, and am currently live in Waterloo, Canada (the most exciting city in the world).
I started my degree in Systems Design Engineering (Niche program but: jack of all trades, master of none - focus on user-centered design). I switched into Electrical Engineering after second year when I realized that I wanted to spend all of my time learning circuits.
As an ex-SYDE student, I have worked in... a wide range of industries.
My first co-op was at a *very* small start-up called Drop that made a rewards app for millenials (points for debit card purchases)
I answered Many Many Support Tickets (like over 4000), did front end web development for the app website, and designed an app feature to solve a problem I identified while answering support tickets. Essentially, people would ask questions based on misconceptions about the app rather than issues, so I designed and created a support flow within the app to streamline the support ticket process and lower the number of questions that got through the pipeline.
Lessons learned: *Do Not* get software trapped!
After leaving the software world (and feeling the pressure from Artsy Systems Design Engineering classmates), I tried my hand at user experience + user interface design.
I worked at TD Bank's innovation lab (at a start-up incubator slash corporate innovation center) doing UI/UX design for experimental applications.
From this job, I gained experience with user-centered design and how to compromise between different engineering goals.
Lessons learned: Design process = fun, but obviously I switched out of Systems Design (so not fun enough).
I switched into Electrical and have been loving it ever since! I'm not going to talk about it here because my whole website is dedicated to this. :)
During quarantine, I have picked up many hobbies, and only dropped some of them.
I'm graduating in April 2022, so reach out if you think it would be a good fit!
